My Research Topic

the topic i choose to look into is Facebook and social networking. i choose this topic because i wanted to see how it has changed the way we communicate with family, friends, and business associates. i choose to relate the movie The Social Network to the facts that i know about the website with a book by Malcolm Gladwell. i wanted to know how Facebook began, where it is going, and how it is used most by the general population. 

Library Databases

well the trip to the library taught me a lot of useful things that i can use in the future as a student but also for the topic that i have in mind for my paper assignment it wasnt very helpful. i learned about the movie website that i could visit that would be able to help me write a useful bibliography for the movie that i have in mind for the essay.

The Kitchen of Meaning

          the kitchen of meaning is basically telling us that everything around us that seems so simple and ordinary has a deeper meaning to it. everything around us is a message, and it all means something important to each individual. the things that are the simplest like the clothes we wear or the cars that we drive define us as a person. that these things can tell us so much about a person at first glance. someone who chooses to wear sweat pants and a t-shirt instead of the designer clothes can be defined as someone who likes to be more comfortable than stylish. someone who drives a old mixed matched truck instead of a Cadillac would rather get from point A to point B, rather than driving in style.  
         the "reading" that he is referring to is us a individual people inspecting the world around us. as people it is second nature for us to look at a person and quickly judge them at first glance. if that person can be your friend or if that person is poor. we judge a persons character by their appearance, this is how we "read" people.

The MAchine is Us/ing Us

After watching this video numerous times i realized that Michael was trying to say that technology is always learning and we are the teachers. but on the other hand we as students and adults are always learning and it is technology that is the teacher. it is kind of like a give and take relationship.

In his second video he explains what he learned from the video and how even the video taught him things that he did not know before making it.  i believe this shows that there is always something to learn form everything even the smallest of things. One video has the power to connect millions of people around the world because of the internet and that is an amazing thing. i believe he was right when he said that the wed/ internet is changing us. we depend more on the internet now to get information that we do on books or newspapers like we used to. we depend on social networks to communicate now than just a simple phone call. with all the new developments in media we change and adapt to them.

because of the media we interact differently than we do on paper, we write differently also. in digital text now we tend to abbreviate words to make text shorter, or in other words we purposely miss spell the simple words. in sum technology has a major impact on our lives today and as it changes and advances we change with it, we adapt.
